MAXX : “ The first real art classes I had was a ceramics course at, about, age seven at a place called Alternatives. It was an artist-run collective that I think only existed for a few years on Dublin St in uptown New Orleans. Mom said it was her idea to send me. It was very hippy and independent. When she picked me up my jeans would be covered with an inch of clay from working on the potter’s wheel. I was so small I had to kick the wheel to get it to spin and then pull myself up on to the bench….it was back and forth like this until I could make my pot…..quite a lot of work . ”
